Krw_co is pleased to present a recent acquisition of pre-fm reel-to-reel master tapes. Judging by the notes on the reel boxes,
two decks were being used to record these to avoid cuts during the performance (labeled as "Deck A" and "Deck B").
When these were acquired, I was disappointed to see the familiar gray box of Ampex-branded tapes
knowing how these have not held up well over the years. Through careful baking and transferring techniques,
these tapes have been salvaged with excellent results. After the transfers were completed,
the reels were toast leaving a pile of chrome under the transfer deck requiring about 15-20 minutes to clean the residue off the tape heads after each pass.
Thankfully, a clean transfer without any tape "squeal" or dropouts was captured.
Each reel had test tones at the start but we have left that only at the beginning.
Please watch your ears with track one if you are using headphones or have a dog nearby.
