"Music on the Water"
Landeskulturzentrum Salzau
There is a small pond in the beautiful park of the Salzau Residence,
which is used as cultural centre of Schleswig-Holstein.
You will find a small wooden pavillon on the water,
at the edge of the small lake (or pond).
This pavillon exists since spring 96.
Ilya Kabakov und Vladimir Tarasov realized the installation
�Music on the Water� here. Ilya Kabakov once more came closer to his
ideal-typus which he calls the �Total Installation�:
In such an installation, an important, if not the main,
place is occupied not only by the objects exhibited in it -
paintings, drawings, things - but also by where they are arranged,
that world surrounding them, that �atmosphere� of the place
which surrounds, devours these objects,
giving them new sound and meaning.
The wind blows through the metallic objects, the cuckoo is calling
and the wild pigeons coo. Alltogether they mix to aeolic music
and the swans are meditating on the lake.
It's still quiet, the charrets are not used as rehearsal rooms,
they keep silent in the half circle, but ...
Jazzbaltica is coming!

Landesmusikrat Schleswig-Holstein
and the ministery for education, science, research and culture,
