Albert King Canberra Theatre Dec 1990

This audio is taken from a video of the show sent to me by a guy in Canberra called Bazza , a local musician . the date just said 1990, ive worked out it is December as Albert toured australia and played the Enmore in Sydney that month according to setlists.com.

I had the misfortunate to see Albert play in Adelaide during this tour at the Old Lion and that gig was a debacle in every way, the band and Albert seemed to have had some sort of falling out, they played several good openers and then Albert came on and�. he was woefully out of tune and twice as loud as all the other instruments, No one made any effort to rectify this and after a few minutes the soundboard was abandoned by the mixing crew, no one was making any adjustments , even though the sound was really bad.. I left after 30 minutes and according to those who stayed , it didnt get any better.

However, this is a lot better then that, there are a fair few bum notes , quite a bit of tuning up and long jams that lack the real fire that this guy was capable of producing when he was at his best.There sounds like some sort of argument which lasts a minute or two between songs something over counting in the number, its not very audible.

Overall the band play well ( they were not pickup musicians but his regular band ) and Albert is mostly on reasonable form, but is a mere shadow of his former self. He plays some some very long tracks here and i have not provided a set list, altho he does play Born under a Bad sign, quite well.

My feeling is that this really is for completists. The sound is generally very good to good , not sure if the audio is from the camera mic, , its generally fine if a bit loud on occasions,. Ive tweaked the loud notes down few dbs here and there and removed some applause, however as the playing is not inspiring i have not gone through this with a fine tooth comb as i could not handle exposing myself to 90 odd minutes of average music so there may well be some blemishes I have missed .

Sad to see such a great talent not playing at this very best. but this is a record of one of his last shows and as such it probably should be out there.
