Alison Brown Quintet
Like James Taylors voice or B.B. Kings guitar, Alison Browns banjo
is an instrument possessed of a unique sonic signature and an inescapable
beauty An artist who never ceases to delight. says Billboard

After the Day 1 experience we had a plan for getting the right spot. My friends
were staying a few blocks away and in the middle of the night he got up to put
the blankets down at multiple stages. I arrived at 7 and we were set to go.
I found good parking in a 100% safe spot. Last year I was towed on Saturday
afternoon despite being legally parked. In this case I was parked between two
other cars so I was happy. I located the blanket at Banjo next to the trash
cans. This space is perfect except for the occasion beer bottles clinking as
they are tossed. Saturday tends to get more talking and drinking. For the most
part the talking wasn't too bad. I was able to move a bit to avoid it. The
one time I gave someone a STFU was when this guy finds his friends right in
front of me, then proceeds to call his friend on his iphone while the music was

The first band The McCrary Sisters I knew nothing about. About 30 minutes before
the start they did their sound check. I was impressed, they were a r&b gospel band
and seemed like a fun way to start the day. Next up was Alison Brown Quintet. She
plays a mean banjo and I enjoy seeing her at this festival. Next up was The Time
Jumpers with Vince Gill. I was told he plays with this band every week in Nashville.
The fourth act is one of my favorites. Its the Hollar Down the Hollow set which
is a tribute band to artists/songwriters who have passed away. Lots of people
joing the band for a song playing "bluegrass" versions of everything from Johnny Cash
to the Ramones. After that was the Dave Rawlings Machine which features Gillian Welch
and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin. This set is a must have. After this set my
friends left for King Crimson and I was given their airbnb apartment code to drop
off blankets for Sunday. By this time we were also paying close attention to the SF
Giants game on our phones. Finally, Steve Earle played his usual excellent set. The
Giants game was seriously into extra innings. I got to my car, dropped off the
blankets and drove home switching the car stereo between my recordings and the game.
I pull up to my house and as I am about to listen to one last pitch it is a game
winning home run in the 18th. Perfect end to an amazing day.
I typically have Steve Earle
