NB, most of there first set is also available as another ,superior recoording by JK,45 minutes.

This came to me many years ago pretending to be a 'BBC broadcast" ...... well its not, it had multiple sound fluctuations, thuds and clicks. But the upside was , unlike some of the other sets from the gig, there was virtually no audience noise during tracks, the taper was fortunate in their positioning.

Also, most of the recordings on the day had suffered from wind gusts , but by the time the Allmans came onstage , these had largely moderated. However the PA system was a monster,60.000 watts and keys, guitars and most notably Greggs vocals, has a degree of distortion at times, no doubt due to the sound levels of that behemoth !

I spent a great deal of time fixing this in the early 2000s and booted levels in one track, applied some minor eq , removed the worst of the bass noise ,generally made it more of an enjoyable experience to listen to , I probably was using soundtrack pro on it then , but I wasn't very happy with the results , so I put it aside for more then a decade.

After 2011 , I acquired audition and more recently Acoustica , so between the two apps I began using spectral editing to try and get rid of the worst issues. I have removed the blemishes I wasn't happy with , toned down the roughness on Greggs vocals , cleaned up various distortions on the instruments and applied some more bottom end as I had to remove some of that in order to get rid of the thumps and occasional wind noise on the original recording.

Is it perfect ? , far from it, its still quite raw sound, the PA was excellent but exceedingly loud ( it could be heard clearly in the next village 6 miles away) and clearly it overloaded the equipment on occasions , you cant turn it up to 10 and expect it to sound clean, but I played it using a Nad 80 w amp at 50% with treble bass on 50% through Dali Concept 8 speakers and I found it a perfectly acceptable mid 1970s outdoor concert recorded with fairly decent equipment.

I would grade it as B.B-C+ grade from this era, To some extent as the show progresses into the longer jams the quality decreases as the band no doubt crank up amps in set two and try to outplay each other.
