Notes:
Is there a more obnoxious frontman than Ariel Pink? Anybody? Didn't think so. Here he
manages to offend the crowd in the first 20 seconds of the show. And he's just getting
started. Add to that the poor sound quality of the This Tent for most of the shows on
Bonnaroo's opening day, and Mr. Pink's penchant for twisting knobs which make his voice
sound scratchy an hour into the show. No, that's not our recorder screwing up, folks,
there is a demented mind at work here. On the other hand, we did have a few glitches in
the recording that we've tried to repair. So don't expect great sound on this.
That said, the music is brilliant. We knew that from listening to his album, Mature Themes,
coming in. It's a kaliedoscopic adventure you shouldn't miss. Veering from unlistenable
noise to pure soul, and everything in between. It was a revelation listening back to this
performance because we didn't realize at the time how much we liked this show. Listen to it,
and if you don't like it, listen to it again.
We'll put some samples up, but they will not do this show justice.
Hope you enjoy it.
