I've been working on some more cassettes from Auntie Boko's black box and in particular a
number of recordings made from BBC World Routes. This is the first of a series of 3 programmes containing location recordings in Peru. They needed a little hiss reduction. I found the following information about the programme and more of less managed to match up the tracks with the information.

Lucy Duran presents the first of three programmes recorded on location in Peru.

She begins her journey on the way to the lost city of Machu Picchu and the haunting huaynos of the Andes. Plus she explores the Afro-Peruvian traditions of the Pacific coast including a session with Peru’s most famous singer Susana Baca, and a visit to one of Latin America’s most atmospheric clubs, the Pena Don Porfirio.

Susana Baca (vocals); Sergio Valdez (guitar/backing vocals); Cotito (cajon/backing vocals)

Don Porfirio House Band: Jorge Velasquez (first guitar); Ronald Diaz (second guitar); Alfredo Calderon, Gabriel Hernandez (vocals); Manuel Vasquez, Eduardo Balcazar (cajon); Carlos Hernandez (bongos/cowbell); Wendor Salgado (guitar)

All music, except Chabuca Granda: La Flor de la canela (album: Criollisima
Nuevos Medios NM 15 769 CDD), was recorded on location in Peru by James Birtwistle for BBC Radio 3, August & September 2006
