Hello blues fans, you all are in for a treat today !! I've got a very nicely mixed soundboard of B.B. King from 1981 !!!

I've had this for over 4 years and wanted to get my notes and thoughts on this before posting. Here's what I've got.

Notes:

BB mentions the Golden Bear during Track 06.

Track 7 "More More More" is a rare song and I think its the only time Ive heard it live.

Track 8 has music missing due to a tape cut at the 37 second mark. Then it quickly jumps ahead towards the end of the song, where it continues into a lengthy Band Introduction, naming all 10 members.

An interesting bit of spoken word by BB during the Band intros:

B.B. King quote: "The first night that these 2 here that started to work with me, this was their first job right here, 2 years ago. Oh ! 3 years ago. It was the first 3, first 3 of them, one, two, three. How about a hand, this is like something of a 2nd anniversary for them, thank you, right on this stage."

Also in attendance near the stage, BB King mentions his friends, bass player Curtis Tillman (from Big Mama Thorton's 1950s band) and saxophone player Robert Williams.

My overall thoughts on this recording. this wasn't labeled as 2 sets, but after hearing it, it's clearly from large portions of 2 separate sets.

Neither being complete and missing the beginning and ending to each set.

Further more, the date of July 23, for my own personal belief could be suspect. tour dates from this time period are sparse.

Here's a list of what I can verify:

7/18/81 Summerfest Main Stage, Milwaukee, WI w/Millie Jackson & Bobby Bland
7/23/81 Golden Bear, Huntington Beach, CA (date added, based on CD recording, might be dated wrong)

7/25/81 Knebworth House, Knebworth, England

7/26/81 Red Rocks, Morrison, CO w/John Hammond & Big Mama Thornton
7/28/81 Golden Bear, Huntington Beach, CA
7/30/81 Golden Bear, Huntington Beach, CA
7/31/81 Country Club, Reseda, CA

For the time being I will leave this dated as July 23rd. but I suspect it's more likely July 28th.

I need to do further research to verify.

Ive really enjoyed being able to hear this, regardless of it being incomplete.

Its from a unique time period with band members that were short lived, some of the players were only with BB for a few years and recordings during 80-82 are hard to come by.

This is a real gem of a document.
