This particular BB King recording was a special find. I had just randomly been looking through eBay for some B.B. King memorabilia and I stumbled across this. Two cassette masters and a ticket stub. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I knew immediately that I was the one that needed to buy this. For the purchase cost of $46, I had to own this. I sent the tapes out to my friend Wes Meyette to do a 24-bit transfer.
The sound quality isn’t quite as clear as I had hoped, but it’s still fairly good to listen to, just a bit muddy. I could tell that the taper had a problem with his microphone and it must’ve come unplugged or slightly disconnected for 10 or 20 seconds, a few times during the show.
But the cuts aren’t really that bad.
During this time in BB's career he was dating a young woman named Deborah Boston who he had join him on stage and sing two songs.
The reason I know they were a couple is because I contacted BB King‘s daughter Shirley King and asked her about this. Shirley King tells me that she was the one responsible for introducing her father to Deborah Boston. Both women lived in Chicago and still do She was part of the band from March 1984 to March 1985. After about 12 months of dating BB King and Debra had a falling out. She started behaving unprofessionally and this displeased BB King and he broke up the relationship. Shirley King has had no further contact with Deborah since then. That was 40 years ago. I don’t know the whereabouts of Deborah at this time.
I’m glad to have found this recording and brought it to the collectors community. You just never know what you’ll find on eBay.
