Iconic Australian blues band Backsliders perform at an intimate music lounge venue in the refurbished Wollongong Town Hall. Capacity was about 180 people.
The Making of Midnight Oil Exhibition opened next door at the Wollongong Art Gallery the night before. Midnight Oil's drummer Rob Hirst has performed with his
blues band at the various venues the exhibition has been at and Wollongong was no exception. An awesome gig in the intimate venue. When I bought my ticket it
said general admission so I expected to take pot luck with a chair or a stool. When I got there they had done seating allocations. I have never played hockey
or soccer but tonight I was centre forward, right in front of the drum kit. It was a nice mixture of songs from their back catalogue, their new CD Heathen Songbook
and there was a classic Rolling Stones cover in there as well. They did their usual acoustic set in the middle of the 2nd set. Rob just helped sing the 1st song,
he played the cheese grater for the 2nd song and for the 3rd song he played he held his snare drum and played it with loop wire brushes after tickling the feet of
the lady sitting next to me. Enjoy classic Australian blues.................
