I've got something special today. Another rarity from the M.R. archives.

A mid 70's Beach boys audience tape, that I've never seen before until now.

The opening act was a lesser known group called "Honk".

More well known acts who opened earlier in the year, were Roger McGuinn, The Raspberries, John Sebastian & Marshall Tucker Band.

The Beach Boys had a busy year in 1974, with approx 95 city tour dates. This tour pace continued into the following year.

In 1975, The Beach Boys clocked in 100 city tour dates. Playing 5 nights at the Chicago Stadium, 4 nights at MSG, followed by 5 nights in Landover.

1976 was also a very active touring year. Unfortunately, Brian's last appearance was in April 1973. this became Brian's recluse period.

Wilson spent a great deal of three years secluded in the chauffeur's quarters of his home. sleeping, abusing drugs and alcohol, overeating, and exhibiting self-destructive behavior.

During this period, his voice deteriorated significantly as a result of his mass consumption of cocaine and incessant chain smoking.

After a serious intervention to pull Brian out of his downward spiral, Brian wouldn't step back onto a stage with The Beach Boys until July 2, 1976 in Oakland Coliseum.

On a side note, Bruce Johnston wasn't involved in this tour either, he had left the Beach Boys in 1972 to embark on a solo career, and wrote the Billboard number one,

Barry Manilow hit "I Write the Songs", for which he won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year. Johnston wouldn't rejoin the Beach Boys until 1978.
