Night 2 of Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. For the second night there will be
two sources. I had a friend run my new Schoeps MK41's and backup preamp/recorder
along with my usual MK4's. This led to a bit of preshow stressing as he didn't know
the rig and teaching someone new gear at a show represents a challenge. In the end
it was all good. I knew from the start this was a different crowd (and not in a good
way). I parked myself in the spot and the crowd filled in earlier. To my left was
a talkative early 20's girl drinking hard with her friend. he says to me she hopes
I don't mind she will be dancing wildly and will be banging into me. I said thats
fine but I hope you aren't a screamer (I sensed she was). Her response is "Haha I
scream alot". I turn away and ignore hoping she moves away. Ten minutes later she
is pushing into me telling me to give her more space. I tell her I have not moved.
The show starts and you can hear her throught with the blood curdling screams. I move
forward a bit by by the last song she is right by my side. I also had a group of
friends in front of me and to my right. You can hear them a bit. In the Colors is
particularly bad. There was an attractive blonde woman in the group who kept trying
to talk to me during the show. I don't think she was used to being ignored or told to
be quiet. No "wind noice" on this one so better sounding recording. I thought band
was tighter but first night had a set list more to my liking. I do give credit to
a mostly different setlist. Looking forward to tonight and tomorrow.
