After a great tour opener I was ready for day 2. I got out to the Fillmore
the same time as day 1. As it turns out there was a very early soundcheck
so it was 4 hours of hanging out on line socializing. It was foggy anf cold
so we were all ready for doors to open. I got in and set up at the same spot.
I luckily had mostly nice and courteous people around me and the sound was
also very good. The big difference between the first night and second is
the band was on fire. Ben was much more talkative and in a great mood with
friends and family in attendance. Normally Ben isn't overly political although
the vibe of his music is very positive and his political leanings are known.
He commented on that at the Del Mar show after the election. For this show he
made his feelings known by dedicating Don't Believe A Word to Donald Motherfuckin
Trump and the crowd roared in aggreement. Also during the show a sweatshirt was
tossed on stage from a SF bar called the Wreck Room. He told us the story of his
game winning shot at Claremont High School and the bar at the Wreck Room is made
from the gym floor he played on. Charlie also seemed much more relaxed and was
feeding off the excitement of the crowd. The set ended with When The Levee
Breaks that blew the roof off. After a break we got another extended encore.
Usually I bail from a show right after the last note but this show I hung out a
bit talking to the folks who I spent the afternoon on line with and we all agreed
it was a special performance. I hope everyone enjoys this recording as much as I
did.
