Comments from the Source:
All of these recordings I'm currently transferring came from a local flea market discovery. This was perhaps ten years ago (I've been slow in getting them organized and digitized). I was rummaging through a box at a local college flea market, and found a large bunch of cassette tapes at the bottom. There were some that were obviously copies of commercial releases, but also about a dozen that appeared to be boots, labeled with (leader) names and dates, and in a couple of cases, the location of the recording. I knew pretty quickly that these had all been recorded at clubs in the SF area between 1982 and 1985 (and one from 1988). There are about four tapes that I can identify as having been recorded at Kimball's East in San Francisco. I have no way of knowing whether these are first generation tapes, or whether they were all from Kimball's or other clubs as well. I think only one is identified as being a radio broadcast.
