comments:
Bill introduces (accidentally) "This is Jeff Berlin by Joe Frazier" (then corrects himself).
A nice small club show on the Gradually Going Tornado tour (as that frightful season rolls
around again for the U.S.A.) this is a kind of tornado that won't knock your house down,
but it may knock your socks off. It's a Bill Bruford master tape, and even though I posted
the 6/21/80 show just days ago, more Bruford is wanted, and how can I pass up a nice Bruford
1980 master when that's the only one I have. Make that HAD, now I have 2 but this is not my
own master. It weas kindly loaned to me by stratcat58 who says it is a master tape, and it
does have a masterlike sound to it, so here it is. Another 1980 Bruford show? Hey, I'm not
complaining. I have several 79 ones but nice to get another from this fine tour. Stratcat told me
this tape has been rather circulated but most have generated copies of it. This is the tape
those generated copies all originally came from (he believes) so if you have one of those,
check it with this version, and if this is better, heave the old one. I don't like anybody
having to listen to generated Bruford shows. Some bands I really need recordings of pretty bad,
but about 50 various Bruford recordings, hey more can't hurt any, but I need Captain Beyond,
Gnidrolog and even an old ZZ Top (also a couple of ELP shows) alot more than Bruford band shows
(since I have about 8 of those now, all pretty decent quality). This doesn't compare to the
6/21/80 show, and I doubt any does (incl. sbds and FM's). That was the ideal BBB aud recording.
But this is a nice show too and quite an enjoyable recording of it, except for track 7 which
had a problem, vastly inferior to the rest of this (also only 2:21 of it fortunately). I
would usually splice together a track broken like that, but didn't this time because of the quality
problem with track 7, and because if you leave that out, although you'll miss almost 3 min. of my
favorite song in this tour (fainting in coils), you will avoid the only crummy quality track
in this recording. (just a thought some might prefer.)
Other than the bit of flawed Fainting in Coils (some is missing completely but not alot) and
maybe a second or two of Hell's Bells, this is otherwise complete. After the FIC, the quality
jumps right back to previous sound, before the start of track 8 and remains fine from there.
You can hear a bit more crowd here than in the Boston one.
but not everyone gets to put their microphone almost right in front of Bruford's face (15 feet away).
Not quite that good here, but the presence in here is pretty good, clear, just not very high end
deck/mike.
Do not sell this recording.
Trade freely and losslessly.
Keep New Jersey highways (and Bruford ROIO's) clean.
thanks to stratcat58 for providing the master recording for this post.
