Econeywaaa posted this outstanding and apparently uncirculated ALD recording of the Black Crowes and Jimmy Page on April 27 to considerable aplomb, but also some grousing (understandable, perhaps could have been friendlier, but, hey, that's the internet) about the overt and inherent phase problem.

ALD captures are notorious for phase issues which can be remedied by inverting one channel of the underlying dual mono recording, correcting the cancelation problem.

We were pleased when Econeywaaa reached out to us via PM to ask if JEMS could handle the remaster/phase correction and we were only too happy to take it on. He sent the original .wav files to us as the basis of this new version.

Having worked with a lot of ALD recordings over the last 20 years, this is one of the highest fidelity we have ever come across. Yes, the original release had the phase issue, but once corrected there was a lot to work with.

We didn't have to push things too much, but this remaster widens the sonic landscape a bit to allow for better instrument separation, and we turned a few dials to make it punchier and open up some air at the top. Samples provided.

ORIGINAL NOTES

The Econeywaaa Legacy Series-Black Crowes/Jimmy Page Mansfield, MA July 7, 2000. From master DAT. SBD/ALD

This one has a funny story. I used to get tickets for shows from this broker who had the biggest live collection I've ever seen. I taped two Jeff Beck shows for him and he would give me first crack at tapes he'd get from other tapers. He gave me this master from the guy who taped this, that Pearl Jam Mansfield show from 98 SBD and that Springsteen 8/99 Boston Garden SBD. He asked if I could use some software on it and I did, I used Cool Edit to sweeten up the highs just a touch and I adjusted the stereo mix slightly, as they both were kind of flat. Other than that, it's as I got it. I've never seen this show around and I've never posted or traded my version of it, so enjoy.
