A Doodee Music Master Recording

Two young kids - one, who looks a little like Joey Ramone, beating an unconventional, tiny drum kit; the other, with a voice that sounds many times his years, firing off alternating rhythm and lead from his Tele. This was The Black Keys in 2003 and my first live experience with them. I believe many more folks have caught on to them now, but on this night the room in Asheville was about 1/3rd full. Didn't matter to Dan and Pat. They just smashed out their unique brand of blues. For those unfamiliar, this is a band that puts it's signiture on many different types of tunes. In this show they cover The Beatles and Iggy Pop, all the while worshiping at the altar of Junior Kimbrough. They cover a couple Junior songs as well. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that you're only listening to two guys because they achieve such a big sound. These guys are so drawn to the delta blues tradition and so reverent to it's style and culture that Dan Auerbach actually traveled to Mississippi, located T-Model Ford (he wanted to meet Junior but he passed away before he had the opportunity), and spent time learning his craft, all the while sleeping on T-Models floor. I don't wanna know what those dust bunnies looked like. Many folks don't realize that these guys are a Fat Possum artist but one listen and you'll get it. Got video of this show also that I'll try and get up at some point. Enjoy!
