"Manchester Academy" was originally the name of the largest of the University of Manchester Students' Union's four concert venues. That name has become a brand, so to be clear, Blackberry Smoke stepped up their Manchester venue again to the largest of the four Academy venues.

Academy 1 is an almost square space with a low ceiling and the sound is generally very good. It opened in October 1990 and after major refurbishment in 2008 & 2013 has a capacity of 2,600. The hall seemed full to me.
