Blue Cheer Live At Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco April 6 1984

AUD Master Cassette>Nuendo>Wav>Flac

This is the second, and last of the Blue Cheer Shows I recorded at the Mabuhay Gardens. I used a cheap ghetto-blaster, probably sitting on the mixing board at the back of the room. The tape didn't sound near as good as the other one I recorded, from 3/22/85, and it had a few faults. It needed balancing, some eq-ing (not much) and I brought the levels up pretty high (there wasn't much dynamics anyway so I brought the peak level to the upper limit). Doctor Please had a dropout lasting several seconds. I matched the wave ends musically, which lengthened the missing info slightly, if you know the lyrics like I do you may notice that there's a 4 line verse missing. It's not a mistake of Dickies, he sang it right. Sorry about that, shit happens with cassettes recorded over 20 years ago......

The tape flip is at the start of Boney Maroney, losing 3 measures of the drum intro, again I matched it as close musically as I could, by dropping one more measure. Yes I know, how dare I? It just didn't feel right, besides, it was already not the way it was played, so now it feels right, deal with it.

Although it's not a tape fault, I faded up the noise in the beginning, they hit the stage casually, with Tony adding some bonus psychedelia, and began playing without anyone introducing them. We knew who they were!

The performance is looser than most BC shows I've heard, Paul and Tony both screw up now and again, but hell, Dickie holds it together so well they find their way back quickly. I'm pretty happy with my "armchair mastering" on this one, I got lucky maybe, but it compares well with any other live BC I have, except the Lone Star Cafe soundboard (thanks again 38f).

Maybe someone who knows the dates of the "Beast Is Back" sessions can be more exact, but I think this show happened when they got back to SF after recording those songs, I don't think the record was out yet.....
