Had to catch Blue Oyster Cult playing free at the beach. Saw them last in 1980. Picked
up my son and drove down to Santa Cruz stopping in Sunnyvale at Vito's for some NY Pizza to
get in the NY vibe. We parked and got in line. Just as the line moved sent my son towards
the front so he could get the spot. Met him right at the perfect location. Caught a two
song soundcheck but didn't get it recorded since my son was putting on his gear. Oh well.
As with all shows at Santa Cruz, there is the sound of one of the rides on the right channel.
The other beach annoyance was each balls. It was worse than a Dodger game. Must have been at
least 50 of them creating havoc. My son learned how taper's exact revenge on beach balls. I
tried to fix the beach ball strikes in soundforge so they are not too bad. The only other
annoyance was the idiot with the cow bell during Don't Fear the Reaper. This big fat dude
wearing a tie die with a WELL logo (early internet for those who are too young to remember)
take out the cow bell and starts hitting it. He hands it to his wife for a few more hits then
to a friend and finally to a fouth jackass who thinks he is in the band. Starts trying to
perform a cowbell solo. You will hear it and curse him. Hopefully he gets to hear how lame
he really is. Aside from that a very listenable recording and a strong performance worth a listen.
