In 1980 and 1981, Rosetta Reitz organized a tribute to the "Women of Jazz" at Avery Fisher Hall as part of the Newport Jazz Festival. Called "The Blues is a Woman", the program, narrated by Carmen McRae, featured music by Adelaide Hall, Big Mama Thornton, Nell Carter and Koko Taylor.

Note: This is old school FM tuning so the first few seconds is me tuning the dial to find the correct signal. No push button techonology here. After the first few seconds the signal is great.

Note 2: Here is the info for the inserted photo:
Rosetta Reitz with the performers (Carmen McRae, featured music by Adelaide Hall, Big Mama Thornton, Nell Carter, and Koko Taylor) of the Blues Is a Woman Concert at the Newport Jazz Festival at Avery Fisher Hall. Copyright Barbara Weinberg Barefield; (standing, l to r): Koko Taylor, Linda Hopkins, George Wein, Rosetta Reitz, Adelaide Hall, Little Brother Montgomery, Big Mama Thornton, Beulah Bryant; (seated, l to r): Sharon Freeman, Sippie Wallace, Nell Carter

Note 3: This is my best guess at the date. My tapes are marked 1981 but I'm guessing Jazz Alive would not get the tapes out that quickly. If this is the 1981 show I'm happy to change the date. Plus, I did not find the exact date for the '81 date.
