OldNeumanntapr Notes-
This was the second SLO Blues Society Blues Round Up that was held at the Paso Robles Hot Springs, up north of the Cuesta Grade. (I recorded the 1999 show, but now can only find the Guy Budd set.) Originally the Blues Round Up (the big blues ‘festival’ of the year) was held at the beer distributors in Santa Margarita. I recorded Charlie Mussselwhite there in 1993. Then, as memory serves, the Blues Round Up was moved to Biddle Park outside of Arroyo Grande near Lopez Lake. I’m not sure that they even do the Blues Round Up anymore, as I was working on the sound crew in those days with the former SLO Blues Society soundman, who is now since retired. It was nice to get a board patch at all these blues shows. (I thought it was funny, that at the end of the Tom Ball & Kenny Sultan set, they mentioned that they always wanted to sell CDs out of the back of a truck. They said, ‘We’re gonna sell out of that one right there. Don’t know whose truck it is but they won’t mind’. It was my grandfather’s ’72 Ford stake truck that I was using to haul the PA up to the show. And no, I didn’t mind! I was honored!

Cafe R&B headlined, and their set has been previously uploaded by itself, but is being included here to make the entire recording complete. This was the first time that I had seen them and I thought they stole the show.

There seemed to be some radio station bleeding through in the background during the Tom & Kenny set. Probably from an unshielded wireless microphone. It’s faint and not too noticeable.

Enjoy! Share freely, don’t sell, play nice, don’t run with scissors, etc. ;)
