Blynd
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 2, 2017

Here it is again this year, Waterfront Blues Festival. I'm not going to be recording much this year. I'm just to busy with family and retirement. The radio station is still cutting in at weird time to announce all the station call numbers. To me it's an annoyance. I'll try to edit these out if possible.

Cheers to all, twofthrs

The unique band BLYND (formerly Legally Blynd) is one of the most artistic soul-blues bands performing today, comprised of an elite group of top session musicians whove spent years on the road and in the studio with the likes of Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Chrisette Michele, Jill Scott, Justin Timberlake, and Stevie Wonder.

The band is a super group of sidemen and recording session musicians who have spent decades as the foundation of many superstars albums and tours. Founder John Jubu Smith has worked as a sideman since he was just 4, singing harmony for his dads gospel group, then picking up bass and guitar. At 19, he joined the Oakland R&B band Tony Toni Ton, then went on to work for Whitney Houston for a year and half. In recent years he toured as much as eight months out of the years and has recorded with Luther Vandross, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, and George Benson, among others. Other members of the sextet include Rihanna bassist Erik Smith, and Stevie Wonder sideman Errol Cooney.

According to veteran music writer Lee Hildebrand, regular contributor to the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE and LIVING BLUES MAGAZINE, Blynd is easily the tightest, most creative soul-blues band performing today. Great songs rooted in the blues and gospel quartet traditions, written by and featuring the deeply soulful lead vocals of John "Jubu" Smith, a double whammy of awesome guitar work by Jubu and Errol Cooney, and a rhythm section made up of some of the most accomplished players in the business make for a truly world-class team.

Set List
Unknown. I'm not familiar with this band, although they are very good. I couldn't find anything about them. Looks like they are on Facebook, but I'm not.
