Bob Dylan (guitar), Tom Petty (guitar), Mike Campbell (guitar), Benmont Tench (keyboards), Howie Epstein (bass), Stan Lynch (drums).
4-8, 10, 11 Carolyn Dennis, Queen Esther Marrow, Madelyn Quebec, Louise Bethune (vocals).
9, 15 Bob Dylan (vocal), Carolyn Dennis, Queen Esther Marrow, Madelyn Quebec, Louise Bethune (backing vocals).
(a) more prominent Dylan vocals. Dylan is probably present only for 1-9.
Various sources reference Track 8 as Uranium Rock (Warren Smith). Tracks 10-13, listed as unknown, seem to be takes of the same song, based on a prominent keyboard riff.
More Dylan arcana, picking up with a short run of Dylan/Petty soundchecks, this one rather longer than the typical such recording. I may have one more 1981 soundcheck to upload, but most of them have gone up already (and a couple have come down).
As with most soundcheck recordings, the sound quality varies from inadequate to ghastly. At least this one was recorded inside the venue; the stagehand chatter is often clearer than many of the vocals. The Queens of Rhythm come through pretty clearly in spots, and the most interesting thing for me was that they seem to have a warmer sound than I remember from most of the actual 1986 concerts.
"St. Augustine" will get its first airing in more than a decade at this concert, with Dylan announcing "that was a very special song we played tonight, for a very special person. But I don't think she's here!" He'll play it again at the next two shows, then drop it from the tour playlist. A video of the performance is included in this torrent:
