I've posted a bunch of shows from the 'Dog With Wings' tour before: the March 5 show in Milwaukee, the March 23 show in Rochester, NY, and the August 14 Mansfield, MA performance. This August 27 show from the tour sets itself apart from the other shows for quite a few reasons. Unfortunately, "Refugee" and "Runnin' Down a Dream" are missing from the recording. Yet, as is the case with the Mansfield show, the rarely-performed "A Higher Place" is here. Moreover, there's a great acoustic performance of "It'll All Work Out," which wasn't often played on this tour, as well as a cover of Charlie Rich's "Lonely Weekends" (the inclusion of this song in the set gives TP the opportunity to talk about and praise the music that came out of the 1950s).
Perhaps the most enticing thing about this show for collectors is the appearance of "Come On Down To My House," which was performed a few times Europe in 1992 but was not yet officially released. As Tom announces before the song, it'll appear on 'Playback' in a few months. However, the 'Playback' version, as well as the other circulating live versions, has Stan Lynch on drums. This one, differently, has Steve Ferrone.
An overall stellar show and great sounding recording. Enjoy!
