10. --programme moderator outro (George MacBeth?)--

Total Time ::: 19:34

::: EXC radio studio broadcast quality. Check samples for allay dubiousness, assuage curiosity or jump the gun.
::: Warts: Almost none. Repaired dullspots but surely missed a few. Vague hint of bleedthru at times. (Low level hum/rumble removed with lite NR).
::: CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is the Mk2 version with lite noise reduction to remove hum/rumble. For the Mk2 version with NO NR, seek ye elswhere.
::: I prefer this Mk2 NR version which removes the background hum without discernible artifacts (to my ears).
::: The programme was simply titled "Bones" in the "Radio Times".
::: *1st broadcast 1975-09-15. Actual recording date probably within a month prior to that. More date info below.
::: *An identically listed show aired on 1976-02-20 at 11:05 pm & was most certainly a re-broadcast.
::: *This air-air recording might have been taped on 1975-09-15 or 1976-02-20.
::: Trax markers placed roughly like the official CD, but as the instrument passages are so different, the markers may not reflect Bob's original intentions.
::: The only released version of "Bones" (issued 28 years after being recorded) is on the superb Bob Pegg&Nick Strutt "Keeper Of The Fire" 2CD set.
::: This BBC version of "Bones" was recorded the same year it was written, whereas the released version recorded by Bill Leader wasn't recorded until 1978.
::: Likely this was recorded in BBC Studios in London, but it's not confirmed. Produced by George MacBeth but am not sure he is the moderator in #10.
::: The CD version of this suite has many backup musicians & is quite produced, whereas this version is stark & intense.
::: Bob Pegg has been an important UK folkrocker/folkie for almost 50 years. Early on he released duo LPs with his wife, was a member of the superb folkrock group Mr Fox & worked with Nick Strutt. For many years he has released material primarily as a solo artist.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 359 ::: SINCERE thanks to the original taper, DIMER Paul Hutchinson! ::: Corrections welcome ::: This is totally fascinating. Ordinarily if you described it to me with the intrumentation, it wouldn't really be up my alley. However, this really works. The complex, produced studio version on the compilation CD from the 1978 sessions produced by Bill Leader with many other musicians never really got me off the ground. I went back to it again several times while working & listening to this. I find the delivery in this version offers a much more satisfarctoy listen & one is able to focus on the tale itself. The BBC listing for this piece noted it as a, "ballad sequence about a Viking abandoned on a raid on the East Coast of Yorkshire,", who "later journeying inland to his death". The piece, "charts the history of the battle, his subsequent encounters, and the final fate of his bones". In reality, it's much more surreal. It's an extremely hallucinogenic dream sequence. You can listen to Bob tell, sing & play his story. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees

*FURTHER DATE INFO ::: There is a date discrepancy in the "Keeper Of The Fire" CD liner notes (one which I think has created even further date issues online). In the booklet, Bob Pegg says the "Bones" piece was commissioned by Michael Dawson, to be performed at the Ilkley Festival in 1976 (and says 1979 in his website notes!). He then goes on to say that George MacBeth saw that performance & asked him to record it for the BBC Third Programme. Since the BBC Genome website contains information taken directly from vintage "Radio Times" publications & lists the first broadcast as 1975-09-15, it seems almost certain that Bob is mistaken & that the Ilkley Literature Festival he refers to actually took place in 1975.
