Total Time ::: 34:25

::: Absolutely STELLAR stereo SBD. Check samples for a quick rush.
::: Warts: Essentially NONE. Faint residue of a few electric pops & bumps.
::: Unknown to me if there was more to their show before this set, but it seems likely.
::: *DATE INFO: Tape undated. Probably March or April. "The Shipbuilder" upcoming LP release date announced as May 19th.
::: Liner notes in the excellent "Keeper Of The Fire" 2CD compilation say "The Shipbuilder" actually issued in July '74.
::: "The Shipbuilder" here omits "Song Of The Trees", "The Shipbuilder Reciprocates With... & "The Golden Vanity".
::: Taped with permission of the artists.
::: Opening act(s) were generally "floor singers" (unpaid local performers who got the chance to sing in public).
::: The Pack Horse, still in operation, is the oldest Leeds pub. Located in Pack Horse Yard, a city centre courtyard just off Briggate.
::: Could someone PLEASE upload or send me the Pegg & Strutt "Sounds on Sunday" BBC 1972-12-17 show with "The Shipbuilder"?
::: And, I'd love to hear the missing Pegg & Strutt July '73 Peel trax, the '72 "Country Meets Folk" shows, or other radio sets or live gigs.
::: It would be a dream come true to hear some live Mr Fox, regardless of quality. It must be out there - any line-up.
::: Uploaded in memory of a fine musician, Nick Strutt, who passed away in late 2009.

Recording Information ::: soundboard -> Tandberg half track stereo reel-to-reel recorder -> master 7&1/2 ips stereo reel to reel tape.

Transfer Information ::: master 7&1/2 ips stereo reel to reel tape -> Tandberg half track stereo reel-to-reel recorder -> Boss 8-Track Digital Studio -> hard drive -> 44.1 kHz wav files.

Remastering ::: wavs -> Audacity [channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, electric pops, clicks, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, pitch (speed) was very close so no adjustment, NO equalisation or noise reduction] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded 2017-05-xx.

Line-up ::: Bob Pegg - acoustic guitar, ocarina, recorder (and some flute?), Clarks whistle(?), vocals // Nick Strutt - acoustic guitar, mandolin (#16), vocals.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 351 ::: SINCERE thanks to the original taper, DIMER Paul Hutchinson. ::: Corrections welcome ::: I've been way into things Mr Fox related for many years now. If you've never heard their 2 albums, you should seek them out - excellent early 70s British folkrock circa 70-72. They split up & the Bob Pegg & Nick Strutt duo appeared the following year. A superb now out of print 2CD anthology on Castle Music, "Keeper Of The Fire", includes all their official duo output plus some rarities. This unissued live recording of the two at The Pack Horse is majestic. "The Shipbuilder" was a sort of folk opera concept that was considerably ahead of it's time & kinda missed the boat, so to speak. It should have been a mover & shaker. I'm a mega fan of the self-titled Bob Pegg & Nick Strutt LP & I like "The Shipbuilder" album but have always found the instrumentation to be a bit much on some trax - kind of distracting. It's unbelievable to hear it stripped down to just the acoustic duo, in stereo, near-album quality. It's a full on immersion experience. As Bob said in the "Keeper Of The Fire" notes, "The whole emotional & visual landscape was straight out of an early Romantic opium dream". This is a first class trip. May there be many more. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
