Another Jackal Production Vol 11: Boz Scaggs 2017-10-17 Harris Center Folsom Lake College, Folsom, CA
Boz isn't someone I had ever thought about seeing before. This was one of a couple of shows over the years where my buddy had tickets to go with his then-current girlfriend but they end-up breaking-up sometime before the show. I got the call the day of show to see if I'd go along (AGP still wanted to go but he doesn't do shows solo). Since I don't put out, I guess I must be a cheap date! Anyway, Harris Center is a smallish performing arts theater (seats 850) with great acoustics. It's on the local community college campus and only maybe 7-8 minutes away from home, So on the rare occasion they have a band worth seeing (I count 8 times in the last 10 years), it's a perfect place to see a show.
Circumstances mentioned above aside, I have two other main recollections of the night. First, after an initial early onslaught of snappy/peppy hits, Boz settled into some more bluesy stuff that's really much more to my liking. Dry Spell (the first bluesy song) & Loan Me a Dime were highlights for me. The other thing was that I found myself sitting next to a middle-aged "Karen" type (lots of those here in Folsom). All night long she had the major jazz-hands going during nearly every song - to the point of occasionally encroaching on my space with the outstretched twirling fingers of her right hand. Near the end of the night I happened to look around and noticed that the house was full of jazz-hand wielding Stepford Wives! They all seemed to have their eyes glassed over just a tiny bit but they were definitely having the times of their lives!
Overall, it was an enjoyable show and, even though I liked her, I'm glad my buddy broke it off with his GF.
The show announcement from the 2017/18 Harris Center season booklet is included. This is the only entry from this show in my Concert History project... I didn't take any pictures at this one.
Enjoy!!
