Source notes: I used two tape decks in recording this broadcast, thinking that one day I might be able to splice any overlap into a longer format. Voila, enter CD-Rs. Unfortunately, I lost the master of the last half of this show, but not before doing an analogue splice with the first half of Kevin's Country onto a third tape as filler. I believe I recorded it there directly, but not being certain, I'm allowing the possibility of there being an extra generation.
When I decided to burn this show to CD, I used CoolEdit96 to digitally splice the master source of the first half with the first or second gen source of the second half. The splice point is 10:42 on the Kevin's Country track; it's well past where the analogue splice is, so it doesn't figure in the track here. The splice placement is accurate to within three samples, or 1/15,000 second. I then adjusted the volume of the left and right channels of the first or second gen source, independently, to a difference of less than 1/10,000 of the master source. Pitch of the derivative source was also adjusted with similar accuracy. As a result, the only audible sign that there is a splice is a *slight* dampening in the tone of Kevin Eubanks' guitar. Even if you know where the splice is, you have to listen very, *very* hard to hear it.

Comments: This show and the Rebirth Brass Band performance that preceded it were the real gems of the Dead's NYE bash, as far as I'm concerned. The musicianship is superb, and the broadcast quality is excellent, even with a splice you wouldn't know about if I hadn't told you. This makes an excellent companion CD to the Rebirth show.
