"In Session" was a Canadian series that paired different musicians (the episode pairing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King has been released on cd). This episode paired Bruce with Rik Emmett, then guitarist of the rock band Triumph. Rik Emmett has had a respected career as a guitarist and has written columns for guitar magazines and released numerous solo albums since leaving Triumph in the late 1980's. Though filmed at the same session, the Bruce/Rik Emmett pairing was shown as two separate 1/2 hour programs.

I obtained this performance several years ago (I forget where) and haven't seen it shared anywhere since. If anyone has the full broadcast video, please upload it as well (many clips are available on Youtube). Although this seems like a strange pairing at first, Bruce and Rik's chemistry and playing is really very satisfying.

Personally, this is one of my favorite Bruce video appearances. Rik and Bruce compliment each other very well "guitaristically", bringing out greatness in each other. The songs played run the gamut from acoustic jazz to fusion to hard rock. Highlights include Rik playing slide on "Deer Dancing 'Round A Broken Mirror", the Django Rheinhardt tune "Nuages" in which they trade solos, and Rik's expressive, soulful "Epilogue".
