Known Faults:

The goal of the DS series from the beginning has been to put into general circulation any material upgrades out of Dans archives of tapes compared to the same circulating source as well as get into circulation any alternate sources that have not been widely circulated. This ties in with the wider Multiple Recorder Project and the goal to release and organize all found audio fragments documenting Bruces touring history, no matter what the quality or length.

This brings us to volume 14 of the DS Archives and the first of two nights at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Previously available as part of the Original Master Series from Fanatic and a partial SB, this is a second recording source that does not appear to be in wide circulation. Its offered here based on the guidelines above to get into circulation all found audio no matter what the quality. It is not an upgrade to the Original Master Series source, it is incomplete and contains a liberal amount of hiss in various spots. Each tape side was at a slightly different pitch and slightly different quality. If it was the only source available it would be considered very listenable and a decent document of the show but since it is not the only source I would consider it for those that fall in the category of wanting every fragment available.

We have been fortunate with the discovery in the DS Archives of a few alternate sources with more coming up as we move on to the Darkness tour. Some have been an exciting find and upgrade, the alternate source for Albany 78 (Volume 10) comes to mind and others have been more along the historical curiosity of simply more than one taper in the house that night variety like the alternate Dallas 75 tape (Volume 5) and the capture shared here.

Interestingly, it sounds like both tapers were sitting in the same general area and the sources have the same feel, the biggest difference and what keeps this source from being at the same quality level as the recorder 1 source is the difference in generation. This source is from a higher generation, if a lower generation is found it would be quite good. The audience was very rowdy between songs and since there is a better source already in circulation I did not spend a lot of time polishing every little blemish, this one comes warts and all.

We are coming to a close for the 1976 portion of our series and with the tremendous JEMS coverage of the 1977 tour we will likely be moving on to the epic Darkness tour very soon with maybe a detour to two before then, hopefully some exciting discoveries await us there. We have already identified a number of alternate sources and at least two audience captures for shows that have only been available as a SB to date.

Once again, thanks go out to a number of folks that helped put me in touch with Dan, their assistance and passion for Bruce and getting this music in your hands continues to be invaluable...IvannF, EarlMv, Oats1jvo as well as E from JEMS for the use of the NAK DR-1.

The biggest thanks go to Dan for making his archives available for us all to enjoy...feel free to show your appreciation in the comments.

Thank you to all the collector's that have sent me notes on their discoveries and leads regarding alternate sources, I still have a number of updates from the notes to include.
