Volume 6 of the DS Archives takes us to the sunny west coast and the University Of California for a show falling just shy of 2 weeks after the legendary Roxy stand.

This is the second recorded show after that legendary stand, the October 26th Seattle show misses the start of the show (likely the first 8 songs), this Santa Barbara show misses the last 4 songs.

What we do have here is excellent, previously available on CDR as �That Thunder In Your Heart� which seems to be the most common version, I believe this low generation tape takes it up a notch with less hiss and more punch than that version. This is excellent overall quality for the era up front and punchy recorded on very good equipment but it did run very fast, thanks to the good Professor Goody for the pitch adjustment on the main show.

All circulating copies I�m aware of have severe (and fluctuating) pitch issues during the last two and a half minutes of �Kitty�s Back�, this version was no exception. The pitch suddenly increases from about one and a quarter semitones fast to over three semitones fast then fluctuates throughout the rest of the song between three semitones and four and half semitones (thanks to prof goody for the technical jargon). You can hear this on �That Thunder In Your Heart� and it is totally unlistenable.
For this release, I have done everything possible to correct this issue, painstakingly working to pitch it ten to twenty seconds at time (that�s approximately the fluctuation intervals) and for the first time you can hear the end of �Kitty�s Back� without Bruce sounding like he sucked down not one but two tanks of helium.
Please keep in mind the last two and a half minutes are still damaged pitch wise and when the vocals sound on the underling music may slightly drag and vice versa. It is not perfect but for the first time it is highly listenable and you will not have to cut the end of the show to enjoy every recorded second. All in all I'm pleased with the results after spending many late night hours working on it.

Naturally, the performance is excellent from the emotional opening solo version of �Thunder Road�, now in its permanent opening slot, through "Kitty's Back". There is not a throwaway in the bunch. It�s unfortunate we miss the end of the show considering the great job the taper did but what we have is highly recommended even for the casual fan especially since the end has now ben restored to some degree.
