The Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music was held on the 27-28th June 1970. The lineup featured some of
the top west coast and British bands of the day, with Led Zeppelin as the headline act. This lineup eclipsed the
larger Isle of Wight festival in the following August, but has always attracted less publicity, both then and now.
The show started at midday on Saturday the 27th and finished at about 6:30 am on Monday morning; and attracted a
crowd of about 150,000. The only thing that went wrong was the weather. It was Britain, it was summer - and it
rained. Oh God did it rain !

Zeppelin came and conquered, and the crowds thinned as the hordes of Zep fans left. It was the middle of the
night, it had rained enough for Noah, it was cold and the remaining crowd was tired, sodden and exhausted. The
compare had just announced that the Moody Blues had to be cancelled as it was declared too dangerous to perform
with electric instruments. What took place next would create a legend and would remain forever in the memories
of those present.

The Byrds took the stage and played an entirely acoustic set - accompanied by a thunderstorm which broke as they
came on stage. Apparently they had originally planned to play an electric set, so had to improve the entire show
just to find suitable material to play. This show was the first ever Byrds acoustic show and did they deliver.
They played one of the best sets of the festival, not only in terms of playing, but also in the response they
managed to evoke from a drenched, cold and dog tired crowd. Pure magic ! For those present the show has remained
very, very special.

There have been many different bootlegs of the show, having slightly different set lists. That offered here is
the bootleg "Byrd Bath"
