EARLY SHOW NOTES::::::
::: Was a really muffled master but I think it's now pretty enjoyable. You decide - Check samples for pain or pleasure.
::: Warts: Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed some. Some clapping at end of #07 & #09 & some left in a couple of parts of #25. Otherwise most clapping in songs repaired or reduced & mostly lowered or fixed between songs. Possibly missing song or songs between #19 & #20? #35 cuts. Couple of applause patches done to alleviate very abrupt ends of 2 songs. Some long fades in a few places to minimalise clapping reduction work & make cuts/transitions easier. Taper shut off deck to conserve battery power between songs so there are some quick fades & late starts. Warble in opening couple of seconds on original transfer & NOT an NR artifact.
::: Recorder 1 (only the Early Show circulates from this taper).
::: Unknown what's missing from Early Show, aside from presumed (~20 minute?) "8 Miles High" encore, but possibly more Byrds.
::: CONTRAST CLAUSE: Early Show here is the Mk2 version with EQ & NR. The Mk1 insanely muffled transfer without EQ or NR cane be found elsewhere.
::: Excellent version of "Welcome Back Home"!

LATE SHOW NOTES:
::: Late Show distorted except quiet stuff, but many of you will dig it if you try. Check samples for trial or stopgap measures.
::: Warts: Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed some. Distortion pretty bad in Late Show (except in acoustic & quieter electric songs) & increases during #36.
::: There's ONLY this one remastered version of the Late Show, done without EQ or NR.
::: Unclear what's missing from Late Show, aside from most of the Burritos set (supposedly was only a 1/2 hour).
::: warts: trax 1 & 2 start up a bit late but ain't missin' much. #35 cuts. Last 4 minutes #40/41 was in somewhat rough shape (tape degradation) but worst dropouts were patched.
::: Terry Melcher & Clarence White supposedly joined the Burritos Bros. Late Show set, but not sure they're on the 2 songs here.
::: #35 starts with McGuinn & Melcher, then the rest join in thru #41, tho' the percussionists may not join 'til #40.
::: After #36 the taper or a friend says "there are 14 people up there", then "13 people up there" (which seems correct).

NOTES for BOTH SHOWS :::
::: This is the COMPLETE, best quality version of Recorders 1 & 2 Early & Late Shows combined, using the EQ&NR Mk2 version of the Late Show (which alleviates severe muffling).
::: Not for hi-fi freaks but sure as hell a must for hardcore Byrds & Burritos fans. Nothing else around with the likes of this Late Show in any length (or better quality) so far, except a 24 minute fragment of Lincoln, NE 1970-09-24 at the "pay for lossy MP3" capitol, Concert Vault.
::: A 3CD set circulates - probably a stepped on version of these 2 sources, but feel free to prove me wrong. Alternate tapers or upgrades would be welcome (especially for Recorder 2 Late Show). I don't believe Recorder 1 Early Show is going to get better than this but for a better remastering job.

::: All tickets were $4.50
::: MANY thanks to Dwight for taping the Early Show. This cassette was a gift from him, many years ago. Thanks to the unknown taper who did the late one. Thanks to the DIMER who helped me with setlist info years ago, yr moniker got lost from my notes!

Recording Information ~ Early Show ::: unknown mono portable cassette recorder & mike -> master tape (normal bias/1 channel only/no Dolby). Late Show ::: unknown mono portable cassette recorder & mike -> master tape -> 1st generation tape -> 2nd generation Maxell XLII-S 90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2016-spring ::: Master (Early Show) & 2nd generation (Late Show) cassettes on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck (Dolby B on M2), azimuth adjusted for individual tape, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10kHz/16bit WAV files) -> computer -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, -1% Early Show & -2.6% Late Show averaged pitch (speed) fixes with single pass recording after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification. NO equalisation or noise reduction on Late Show. This Mk2 copy of the Early show has equalisation & noise reduction] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2016-07-30.

Line-up ~ Flying Burrito Brothers ("Burrito Deluxe" band) ::: Chris Hillman - electric bass, mandolin, vocals // Bernie Leadon - lead guitar, banjo, dobro, vocals // Rick Roberts - rhythm guitar, tambourine, vocals // "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow - pedal steel guitar (and vocals on "Willie & The Hand Jive" only) // Michael Clarke - drums.

Line-up ~ Byrds ::: Roger McGuinn - guitars, vocals // Clarence White - guitars, vocals // Gene Parsons - drums, harmonica, vocals // Skip Battin - electric bass, vocals // Terry Melcher - organ, piano, vocals.

Line-up ~ Byrds with the Flying Burrito Brothers ::: All of the above // plus 3 "roadies" (on late show encore) - woodblocks, tambourines (but one of those was manager & frequent guest percussionist, Jimmi Seiter).

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 302 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! ::: Corrections welcome ::: Aside from the comments above, this one pretty well speaks for itself. Hopefully some day we'll hear a full show of this ilk with both bands in stellar quality. Until then, be thankful for what we have. Share your stash while you can. If yr lazy, enlist some help. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
