Here is a fresh transfer and mastering of an old original JB3 recording of mine. I had to check, but, as far as I determine, this recording has never been openly shared previously.
Having last seen Mr Palmer with ELP in Liverpool back in 1974 on their Brain Salad Surgery tour, I decided to check out his latest ensemble down the road from me in Poole. I remember being very surprised to see keyboards replaced by guitar & then totally impressed/blown-away with Paul Bielatowicz's guitar playing .. to be able to comprehensively cover all these ELP tunes on guitar was/is really incredible

The only problem with this recording, which is still evident when listening to my original raw wav file, as well as my original 2007 mastering of this show, is the sound balance of the drums vs. the bass & guitar; Mr Palmer was just TOO loud in the mix!! .. Though, as I remember, I was quite near to the stage so that may have something to do with it.
Anyway, with this in mind ... for this new mastering, I decided to give iZotope RX9's 'Music Rebalance' a go to try to adjust/remix the levels to push things in the right direction i.e. reduce the Drums & boost the Guitar/Bass. Of course such a tool was science fiction back in 2007 and the poor mix may well be one of the reasons I didn't openly share this recording back in the day; the over-loud drums did detract from my enjoyment of my original mastering somewhat.

This new mastering has come out really great with music rebalance working a treat!! The guitar & bass are well upfront in the band mix now, but don't worry, those drums still a force to be reckoned with ... they're just not the overbearing, thundering clamor of the original.
I can't remember too much about the gig itself but from the recording, the crowd were, in the main, very respectful and as a result there is minimal intrusion by any unwanted chat, though there is enough crowd noise to provide atmosphere between songs.
.......

For those interested - the basic details of the 2022 mastering applied to the original JB3 WAV recording (using Wavelab6/ Har-Bal2.3/ iZotope RX9/ Cakewalk/ foobar2000) are as follows:
A: Apply left/right EQ & volume matching, plus balancing EQ (Har-Bal2.3)
B: Apply Music Rebalance (iZotope RX9)
C: Apply mid-side phase correction/compression/limiting (Cakewalk(
D: Add silent lead-ins/lead-outs, fade ins & outs, and track splits (Wavelab6)
E: Apply track names & tags plus convert to flac (foobar2000)

The resulting mastered WAV has a final loudness level: -13.2LUFS (-13.64dBrms) (-1.1dB true peak max), with Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Official DR value: DR11.

A note for any finicky audiophiles out there:
Mastering has been done to polish the raw master recording with the aim of enhancing the listening experience. If you prefer virgin recordings, unspoiled by any such amateur 'dabbling' then do not join in on this one. Be warned now ... I don't want any whinging! ;-)

But for the rest of you Dimers, I recommend that you GO FOR THIS ONE ... you won't be disappointed!
I score the sound quality as 9.5 out of 10 (= A+ ); but hey! ... don't flame me if you don't agree ... & at least keep it friendly ;-)

If you have any comments, whether positive or negative, I would love to read them ... don't be a lurker!
