Carl Palmer found some incredible musicians for this incarnation of his band.
The guitar player as well as the bass player are beyond believe.
Even when you listen to this recording, you cannot possibly comprehend the virtuosity, that these 2 fine musicians showcase.
And CP himself ? Wow, at 61 this man is still on fire. This was the most powerful drumming I have seen in a very long time.
The 10 mins drum soloing are anything but boring. Very tasteful with a lot different types of beats and sounds.
If this band is playing near you, you better get yourself some tickets.
Now to the sound. I always record on very low levels. I'd rather increase the levels later, than to distort the recording.
Doesn't really add any damage to the recordings at 24/96 when lifting the levels later, compared to oversaturated ones, where the damage is done forever.
I learned my lesson 2009, when I switched the mic gain by accident on high for 2 ZPZ shows. Great concerts, quasi unusable recordings.
Anyways. This concert beats by some dB even the already incredibly loud Foreigner and Santana shows from this year.
The recording never clipped, but almost did so a couple of times, with the same levels used, as in all the other concerts !
I was right in the sweet spot dead center 2 rows in front of the SBD.
So in parts, the mics were simply overloaded from the sheer noise level thrown at them.
Still a very enjoyable recording - listen to the samples - and a very enjoyable concert indeed.
P.S. I will vote for banning any drunk and nonstop talking women from any show in the future.
What is it with you females outthere ?
The couple next to me and the folks right next to them had more fun talking and laughing out loud, than to listen to the music.
