If you have ever wondered what a power trio sounds like playing ELP classics, here you have it. The Magic Bag is a well seasoned (run down) concert/movie venue/bar (dump) in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. You know the type.... ceiling tiles missing, lavatory doors missing, over amped employees making sure nobody is wanting for alcohol. I was able to grab a table dead center about 7-8 meters from the stage. As you would expect, Carl is rather "up front" in the mix, but the recording is a pretty good representation of what the sound was like (not bad). At the time, I really wasn't sure about ELP songs without keyboards, but on subsequent listens, I've come to appreciate and like them. Carl plays with the energy of a man thirty years younger and has surrounded himself with two very talented musicians. If you get the opportunity, go see them. It's a fun night out.
