Rec. Info:
unknown gen. audience tape, but judging the sound it might be a 1st gen. tape.
This cassette (TDK SA90) -> playback on Harman Kardon CD491 -> Zoom H2n (at WAV 16/44) -> SD card -> HD -> Audacity (edit/remaster) -> WAV 16/44 -> TLH8 -> FLAC -> DIME ->
YOU EARS AND MIND...
This is another very nice recording. Just a few yells and howls here and there, but it sounds pretty fine for the most of its running time. Somehow (my guess) the taper moved a bit
offstage during the encores (several cuts to spare tape space), or the overall sound got more muddy...Who knows?
Another great find from the cellar below the garage of SEETHELIGHT7's home, rescued just in time before cocooned forever by those big eight legged monsters...

THE CHEEPSKATES were a New York state based garage rock/paisely underground band that existed from the early 80's until around 1990. In contrast to contempary artists like the
fabulous DREAM SYNDICATE, they'd chosen another way, adopting the pop music style of the 50s/60s, pairing that influence with a punch of 60s beat garage and a handful of psychedelic
music. So, instead of long freeform instrumental excusions, their songs are rather very short. But beauty is in the eye of those that can watch, and there are many fine moments to
be discovered here again. Enjoy! SB.

Hi,

I recently came across a recording of The Cheepskates from 1988 listed on Sugarmegs. I was the original guitarist and the band was formed in NYC during the late fall of 1982. We performed quite a lot during the ensuing years and released a single and two albums on Midnight Records, a small independent label also in NYC. I left the band (after an aborted west coast tour) in 1986 but possess quite a few live recording in the form of audience, sound board, and FM broadcast. A three camera shoot was done at a show on Halloween of 1983 and has just been posted on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqC1WLkj7DQ . There is also a website for the show: http://www.CheepskatesMovie.com . The site offers a lot of information about the garage/psych scene that happened in and around a particular NYC nightclub named The Dive.
If possible I would like to send live recordings of The Cheepskates to Sugarmegs for listings. Though the band is now regarded as a "three minute single" type of act we used to jam quite a lot and stretch out tunes pretty often.
I hope this email is reaching the person it is intended for and if not I would hope it could be forwarded to that person.

Thanks for all of the hard work and terrific recordings on your site,

David
