The following notes are from a 2003 Archival Group/Acoustic Harmonies tree of 2 wonderful Cheryl Wheeler shows. If you are not familiar with Cheryl Wheeler, I strongly urge you to listen to the samples posted below (assuming I got them posted properly). I also encourage you to see Cheryl live. I can promise you that it will be one of the most entertaining evenings you will spend all year. Here’s a link to Cheryl’s itinerary: http://www.flemingartists.com/tours/index.php

All the info below is from the original tree. If there is enough interest in this McCabe’s show, I will upload the 2nd show (Founders Title Folk and Bluegrass Festival) soon.

Enjoy!

With thanks to Gary, Dale, Mark, Mike and Robert for the source discs, I'm pleased to announce the following Cheryl Wheeler tree.

If you are not familiar with Cheryl, I STRONGLY URGE you to take a chance on these tremendous shows. You will NOT be disappointed! One minute she'll bring tears to your eyes, the next she'll have you rolling on the floor with laughter. The "Jekyll and Hyde of folk music", Cheryl Wheeler's hysterical stage banter and songs will have you laughing out loud at one moment, and at the next she'll move you to the core of your soul with her insightful ballads. WARNING: Cheryl's melodies are so infectious, you may find yourself humming them everywhere you go. Worse still, you may find yourself unwittingly singing her most inappropriate lyrics at the most inopportune times and in the most inopportune places. (For instructions on how to get away with this, listen to "It's The Phone").

This tree consists of two wonderful shows. The first is one of the best Cheryl shows I've heard: a great solo show from McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA recorded on April 19, 2002. It was performed in front of an intimate, receptive audience and features one of the earliest performances of "My Cat's Birthday" -- a rare a cappella version! The bonus tracks on this show are taken from Cheryl's January 27, 2002 Mountain Stage performance and feature an incredible arrangement of Gandhi/Buddha featuring the Mountain Stage band and Lucy Kaplansky.

The second show is from earlier this summer (from the Founders Title Folk + Bluegrass Festival in West Valley City, UT) and features Cheryl's great trilogy of Cat songs. It was broadcast live as it occurred on August 3, 2003. This version is newly UPGRADED and was compiled from two separate sources for the best available sound quality. The bonus material on this set is taken from a Turner South TV broadcast from the Bluebird Café in Nashville, TN in 2000.

Special credit and thanks go out RGP for his masterful digital restoration and remastering of these shows, and also to Ignatz for the wonderful artwork which should be available shortly at the following site: http://artwork.easytree.org/
