Track markings done on the fly so they may not be perfect.

Awhile ago a friend of mine told me he had a tape of Chicago in 1974 that he recorded. I told him I could transfer it for him to cd. This is that transfer. Now the sound isn’t that great, and the taper stopped the recorder between many songs. As a result many songs end abruptly, and start the same. Also the vocals are a bit of a rumor as the recording is distant, however it is remarkably audience noise free. Each disc is one side of the tape. Instead of trying some fancy editing, I felt that the best way to present the tape was to play it straight through. There is one place after track 10 on disc 2 were there is was about a two and a half minutes of blank space. I think the taper didn’t get “record” pressed after re-starting the recorder. As a result that track has 40 seconds of silence before I realized the silence may go on a bit and paused the cd. As noted above, I recorded this on the fly, so I didn’t know about the blank spot. Also as noted above, this is a mono split of one channel. The taper assured me there was nothing stereo about the rig, and I decided to use the much stronger signal only. Finally, while the quality of this is on the poor side, it is an uncirculated master of a band with the original members, near their peak. I’m not a fan per se, but this was a nice show to listen to as far as the performance goes. Since I’m not a fan, the only source of the titles I had was the piece of paper the taper documented the songs on. A scan of it and the tape are included. Lastly, I justify posting this show based on the belief that if this was a tape in the same condition of the Stones, Dylan, Zeppelin, etc, there would be no question whether to share it. I’ve got to believe there are Chicago fans out there that view that band in the same light some of us view other artists. So as they say in the corny after school specials, if this tape helps just one person, it will be worth it. Enjoy.
