ALD (assisted listening device) soundboard recordings are usually knocked for their "thin" sound quality (high amount of treble, not enough bass), but I don't think that's a real issue here at all. As such, Jim's files have been unaltered for sound quality (i.e., no EQ performed)--if some of you prefer to have more bass in your ALD recordings, I'll let you do your own EQ work since it then becomes a matter of personal taste. As for me, I think the show sounds great, as-is.

Jim Fiesler notes:
(regarding his ALD-SBD shows): "ALDs (fm-sbd) perfect captures in most or all cases..however somewhat lacking bass..more than regular fm..The best place to rec these shows was from the park lot..! the signal was the best there..!"

(regarding his Ruth Eckerd ALD shows): "Just wanted to mention to anyone planning on going to Ruth Eckerd Hall and taping the next concert from the parking lot will be very disappointed. They use infra red for the hearing impaired and not FM anymore. So you wont get squat..You can get a box off the internet and tape the infra red signal(inside) but it sounds horribly thin..You are better off doing stealth AUD. If the goose was still laying golden eggs i would not be telling you about it. Now it's over and i want to share what i have..Peace..Jim"

(regarding HIS thanks for these shows): "I should also mention that these while i taped the majority of these Ruth Eckerd Hall ALDs from like late 01' to early 03' from the parking lot, that without John Tsalikes being the brains behind the operation that none of these ruth ALDs would exist(as well as others)..Thank you John Tsalikes..R.I.P. you were a great friend and contributed to the music community for many decades and still today through me and thecommish."

If you decide to download this show, won't you please consider posting a comment on the show's board? It only takes a moment, and believe me, it takes A LOT longer to prepare/upload a show for others to enjoy than it does to download and run.

And won't you please consider thanking Jim for this terrific Chicago show?

As it turns out, it was pointed out to me by eeklair that the original torrent (#212147) for this show was 180 degrees out-of-phase (or, in other words, suffered from "phase inversion").

Per "http://ac3filter.net/guides/mixing_matrix_2_phase_inversion":
"A negative effect of phase inversion is signal cancellation. When two signals with opposite phase meet they cancel each other," as well as, "Simply, this happens because two waves push air molecules in opposite direction, thus producing no sound at all. This effect is most remarkable at low frequencies and almost unnoticeable at high frequencies, thus total effect is like turning basses off."

This new torrent corrects the phase inversion so that the recording is now "in-phase", which means IMPROVED SOUND QUALITY as compared to the original torrent!

If any of you who downloaded the original torrent has Cool Edit Pro, here is how you can "fix" those files (instructions courtesy of eeklair): (1) open each file (converted back to wav) in CEP, (2) go to effects/amplitude/channel mixer and select "no mixing", (3) On the left side under each channel there is an 'invert' checkbox. Tick only one of these and the phase inversion will be corrected.

I realize many of you don't have Cool Edit Pro or don't want to bother fixing the show on your own, so this phase-corrected version of the show is for you. (I followed eeklair's instructions in order to produce this fixed version. My thanks to him for not only pointing out the problem, but for also being kind enough to provide step-by-step instructions for how to fix it.)
