2017-07-02
Milwaukee, WI at the Sugar Maple

Dan Phillips — Electric guitar and effects
Mars Williams – Saxophones (alto and soprano)
Jeb Bishop – Trombone
Krzysztof Pabian – Double Bass
Hamid Drake – Drums

microphones: Church Audio CA14 omni pair
preamplifier: Church Audio CA-9100
recorder: Edirol R-09HR at 24/48
software: Audacity; xAct

This was a full room (about 40-50 folks) with a very appreciative, very quiet audience. I was very much up front, up farther than the first row of seats, to the band’s far left. Everyone played acoustic except for Dan who played with a small amp. I was sitting with my recording rig on a church pew which lines each side of the back room. Occasionally Jeb Bishop would sit down on the pew next to me when he was laying out (about once a set) and there for a minute or two the high end drops a little as his body absorbs some of the sound to the side of the mics.
