This is a unique show, as we get to hear more instrumentals than usual, along with tunes without vocals where they normally would be. Duarte had been fighting a cold for a few days, and his voice finally gave out. The first thing audible on the CD is Chris telling the audience that his voice is "just about shot", but acknowledging that it is mainly his guitar playing that
they came to see. So true.
The majority off the gig was instrumental. Standard instrumentals, as well as songs where the guitar replaced the vocal. The few songs that he bravely attempted to sing were quite frankly, difficult to listen to. Those songs and vocals are not represented here. Thus, this recording is "incomplete". But, it is as complete as anyone will ever get. This is because, along with the privilege to record from the SB comes the implied responsibility to NOT knowingly release something that the artist would obviously prefer not to have circulating. This is only my opinion, and I'm not saying that this applies to all SB recordings and all tapers. But in this case, because the vocal was so predominant in the mix, it was necessary to either exclude the few songs altogether, or use the non-vocal segments. I can assure you though, that what is included here is MOST of the show, and all of it is really smokin' stuff!
A slightly edited all-instrumental guitar showcase by a legend who always delivers.
