Clarence White invented the b-bender device. This device raises the b (second) string of the guitar a whole step by the use of pulleys and levers attached to the upper strap knob and the second string on the guitar. It is activated by pushing down on the neck, and produces a "pedal steel" type sound.

Round 1972, Clarence and his brothers reformed as The New Kentucky Colonels, together with Herb Pedersen on guitar and banjo, who had played with The Dillards, Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Rivers and Country Gazette.

Roland played the mandoline and sang.

Eric played the bass.

Clarence was well known for his flatpicking guitar playing style.
He also supplied the harmony vocals.
