This Zappa tribute band was made up of members of the
central Pennsylvania bands UZO, herbie and possibly others.
They were the second of three bands to play the Thursday
night "pre-party" for the eighth annual Meeting of the
Minds music festival hosted by Jibberjazz productions.
This audience recording came out far better than I expected
it to. I basically just set the levels on my digital
recorder and then sat it on a lawn chair for the whole
show while I went up and stood near the stage. I was
very pleasantly surprised when I listened to it the next
day and it sounded really good. I thought there'd be a lot
more audience chatter because people were talking all
around me, but there's hardly any on the recording.
The band commented on (and interacted with) the audience
all through the show. During Disco Boy the guitarist
noticed the Zappa shirt I was wearing - a big white t-shirt
with a black image of Frank's scowling face across the
entire front - and the band kept working it into the lyrics
all through the show. They also invited a guy who brought
his puppy to the show up on the stage, had another guy
put glowsticks around their wrists and generally had a
lot of fun with the mostly tie-dyed crowd of Dead fans.
Starting around the end of Zombie Woof you can hear a
distant, muffled thumping during the quiet parts of the
next couple songs - that was the final band of the night
(Mystery Fyre) warming up in the "indoor jamhouse" building.
