Preliminary remark 1:

On May 1, 2009 @ Carrollton Station in New Orleans, LA the Continental Drifters
reunion show with the 'Vermilion' line-up took place, 7 or 8 years after their split...

SADLY no recording showed up here on DIME, so far! BUT I'M STILL HOPING...

Here are about 70 pictures, must have been a blast:
http://thecompletebangles.com/Bangles/Photos/Vicki/NOLA/NOLA.htm

Mr. Holsapple's comments & roadtrip-stories are here:
http://halfpearblog.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Knowing that there are not so many Drifters live tapes around, i've checked our
archive and came up with another fine show here, hoping for some interest...and
MORE uploads (check your vaults, cellars & countless shoeboxes...) !

Preliminary remark 2:

As far as i know NONE of this recording was ever used commercially.

This recording here comes directly from the "Men With Microphones" archive.
"MWM" started in the 70ies in South Germany with analog recording equipment,
and at least two of them are still recording sometimes (since the 90ies on DAT,
and, lazy as we are, since lately with small, handheld WAV-recorders on SD-cards).
The "MWM" startet as a project of friends sharing their hobbies together. But by
reason of jobs, partners and other interests the circle of all involved shrinked.

If you like to read more about the Drifters,
please check out my other uploads here on DIME.

About this concert:

The first Blue Rose Supergroup...
and it seemed that nearly nobody outside Germany or Europe noticed...anything.

Released as Blue Rose #3 (after Kate Jacobs and Peter Wells...) in Autumn 1996 by Blue Rose,
their first CD "Continental Drifters" was/is a timeless masterpiece and testified the excellent
musical taste of BR-Edgar ("TGH"). Six incredible musicians, all multiinstrumentalists and gifted
songwriters, all with their own history in music...
Their first short European tour 1996 confirmed their uniqueness with intimate shows, creating
goosebumps all over...a few recordings are circulating.

As eyewitness we could not wait for the next record, the next tour...especially
after we've seen a couple of their SXSW-appearances in Austin, TX. 1998.

And their second CD "Vermilion" crowned it all...musically, songwise and with CD-sales.

This concert here was recorded during their second European tour, Summer 1998.
They performed, with an incredible joy of playing, a wide selection of their own songs,
and also the coversongs - The Hollies, Alive And Kicking, Richard Thompson, and finally
The "5" Royales (better known versions by The Shirelles or The Mamas and The Papas...) -
showed their fine taste - and they changed their setlist EVERY NIGHT.

The master DAT for this torrent here comes directly from Godfather's good old Tascam DA-30,
the only machine linked to the board that night - and i've found no other recordings, no audience.

FOR THE FIRST TIME OUT OF OUR ARCHIVE,
CAREFULLY RESTORED, SLIGHTLY MASTERED
AND TRANSFERRED - OTHERWISE UNALTERED - PLEASE ENJOY!

Musikwerkstatt,
Neustadt a.d.W., Germany
June 19, 1998

"Neustadt a.d.W." is the abbreviation for "Neustadt an der Weinstrasse" ,
and "Weinstrasse" has nothing to do with weeping, bawling or crying, it
simply comes out of the enology, concerning the vineyard cultivation,
and means something like "tartaric street" - in vino veritas... ;-)
