::: Quite fine stereo AUD but it ain't stellar. Check samples for pleasure estimation or curiousity alleviation.
::: Warts: sometimes the AUD is loud in the first set - tried to adjust it. Clapping lowered but loud in places. Taper had to be discreet - recording situation was not optimal.
::: This is the complete show, which was on a Thursday evening starting at around 8:00 PM.
::: Venue was stadium seating. The hall seats 490, and was perhaps 4/5 full.
::: The taper said, "Piucci was on fire in the second set! Not sure how much it comes across in the tape, but he was a giant highlight."
::: Like Grass Valley, Piucci was low in the room mix in 1st set. Apparently he plays loud during soundchecks, so it's an issue during the shows.
::: Inconceivable that more shows of this band weren't taped. All 3 that have surfaced so far are from the same taper. Can anyone supply other recordings?
Recording Information ::: Sony PCM-M10 using internal mics on the recorder -> master wav.
Remastering 2017-07-xx ::: master 44.1 kHz wav -> computer -> Audacity [fades, manual stray peak correction, level/volume adjustments, NO equalisation or noise reduction but pop mute effect was used in places as the clapping was loud & excessive - far too many to lower all of them individually, tho' some were] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded 2017-08-xx.
Taper's notes: Technique: M10 attached to a small stand which I held in my lap in front of me. I was sitting in the third row center, which was actually about 10 feet from the stage. Mic sensitivity was set to "Hi" for the acoustic portion and through "Hold On It's Coming" and then was reset to "Lo" after that. There was no limiting or compression applied during the recording, and recording levels were set by hand as well as I was able to given the limited options for openly examining the levels. The recording situation was pretty visible and there were some overcurious neighbors, so I tried to keep the machine low and as out of sight as I could. The mics were aimed at about a 45 degree angle oriented directly in between the overhead PA stacks.Matt Piucci's guitar was turned up for the second set. The distortion you hear on the bass at times was intentional, generated by an effects pedal. Sound overall was very good in the hall, somewhat better than as represented on this recording due to the limitations noted above.
Line-up ::: Country Joe McDonald - vocals, guitar, harmonica // Matt Piucci - electric guitar // Derek See - electric guitar // Alec Palao: electric bass // Andrea Hensler - keyboards // Jozef Becker - drums.
From whence they come/came: Alec Paleo (Grammy-nominated writer & archivist), Matt Piucci (Rain Parade, Hellenes), Derek See (Gentle Cycle, Strangers In A Strange Land), Jozef Becker (Thin White Rope, Loud Family, Game Theory, etc.), Andrea Hensler (Flower Furnace, Jean Genies).
Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
DimeTravel 371 ::: Thanks to the original taper, Zongo! ::: Corrections welcome ::: This is one of things you really miss about not living in California the past 50 years. They STILL have a great music scene. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
