::: VG++ (Mk2) EX- (Mk3) greatly upgraded TV show track. Check samples for exitin'/excogitatin'/excitin'.
::: Warts: Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed a few. Too short! Several door knocks(!) around 3mins reduced but still audible. Some mike noises reduced. Mk3 differential EQ version sounds more normal with treble/bass response&the NR greatly(!) reduced background noise without apparent ill effect. .
::: CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is the Mk2 NO EQorNR remaster. The better sounding Mk3 EQ+NR remaster may be found elsewhere.
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: Mk2+Mk3 remastered from"Mk1"hanwaker upload DIMED 2010-05-19. On tracker 5mos/159 d/l's.
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: "Mk1"2010 version was included in "A collection of FM+AM recordings 70-73" & was quite off-speed.
::: Programme 1st broadcast 1971-03-29 Monday 10pm "Country Joe MacDonald(sic) sings The Ballad of Jean Dupres(sic)"(Radio Times listing 1971-03-25).
::: Programme rebroadcast 1971-08-11 Weds 10:50pm "A singer&his songs Country Joe MacDonald(sic) sings Ballad of Jean Duprez" (Radio Times listing 1971-08-05).
::: 1971-03-11 CJ played Berkeley, then from 19-30 March he toured in Denmark, Germany, Austria, Holland, France & Belgium.
::: DATE: This BBC programme likely taped during CJ's March 1971 EU tour, tho' no UK dates are listed, so maybe right before it.
::: DATE: PREVIOUSLY listed as 1970-07-xx but it was in 1971, probably the studio session was recorded in mid-March.
::: DATE of recording. This TV show was PRE-recorded. 1st ad published 1971-03-25, so likely recorded BY 1971-03-20 at the latest. Possibly CJ in UK 16-18 March, before Copenhagen. While Radio Times listed the August TV show as a "first" broadcast, it is clearly a rebroadcast of the March show. Weds is verified by the moderator at the end. He also announces Buffy Sainte-Marie as guest the following Weds, that was on 1971-08-18.
::: While there's a slight chance the actual taping was July '70 as originally noted, while CJ was in the UK for Bath & Roundhouse gigs (28 June-05 July), I find it unlikely. "War War War", CJ's 3rd solo studio album was recorded in '71 & released Oct.'71 & included "Jean Desprez". This "One In Ten" show is a remarkably similar version, tho' clearly a different take, & so I feel pretty sure it's 1970 as originally marked. Even with the slight difference in tuning, once the TV version is corrected to A440, it's EXACTLY same length as album, tho' some guitar solos differ, etc. I suspect the Vanguard Studio recording was done not long before or after this one.
::: Lyrics from a 1916 Robert W. Service WWI poem set to music by CJ for his "War War War"album in 1971.
::: While a clean TV studio rendition with no audience, for me this lacks the emotional impact of his live concert versions.

Recording/Transfer Information ::: BBC Two mono TV broadcast -> unknown reel-to-reel recorder -> off-air master mono reel & microphone -> master reel (miked off TV speaker) -> 1st generation high bias cassette, Dolby off -> Nakamichi CR-7E cassette deck (azimuth aligned, Dolby off) -> Marantz DR-700 -> (2000) CD-R -> EAC -> wav -> flac.

Remastering 2021-05-xx ::: 1st generation flac -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset (NOT to normalize volume), fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, clap, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, +2.7 pitch (speed) fix with single pass per segment after frequency analysis & with CD pitch assessment, NO equalisation (*except notches done in Mk2+Mk3both versions to reduce cyclical & TV speaker hum), NO noise reduction] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. (NOTE: CD/album version is sharp - 222/443 as opposed to corrected live version here at 220/440, so this sounds slightly different). Freed 2021-12-xx.
