::: VG++ greatly improved radio broadcast. Check samples for fleein'/contemplatin'/revelry.
::: Warts: Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed a few. #12 few split sec digi-blurs (now minor issue&much preferable to Mk1 loud static bursts). Mk2 some muffling&hum. Mk3 brighter&clearer w/a bit o' hiss.
CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is the Mk3 EQ+NR remaster, clearer&less hiss&hum. The Mk2 NO EQorNR remaster may be found elsewhere.
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: Mk2+Mk3 remastered from"Mk1"hanwaker upload DIMED 2010-05-19. On tracker 5mos/159 d/l's.
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: "Mk1"2010 version was included in "A collection of FM+AM recordings 70-73".
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: "Mk1"missing show intro/lots of crackle&some bursts/problematically slow/setlist incomplete.
::: Mk2+Mk3 versions are patched from an alternate copy of the same master tape, adding track #01.
::: Concert was on 1972-05-04 & was broadcast on BBC "In Concert" programme 6:30pm Saturday 1972-05-13.
::: Brinsley Schwarz opened, followed by Country Joe. Alan Black was the BBC moderator.
::: "The Limit" is an early version. Song first issued in 1975 on "Paradise With An Ocean View" with LOTS of production.
::: "The Man from Athabasca" first released on CJ's '71"War War War"LP. That version also on '75 "The Essential"comp.
::: "Athabasca"originally misspelled on CJ's releases as"Aphabaska" (NO INTERNET, dudes).
::: "I’ll Survive" first appeared on the 1969 Country Joe&The Fish "Here We Are Again"album.
::: Maybe wrong (often am), but"The Limit"&"The Man From Athabasca"&"I’ll Survive"maybe the ONLY live ones around.
::: CJoe believes the unissued song hanwaker&I had as "I'd Live To Live My Whole Life Over Again" is titled "Memories".
::: I believe "Memories" is the ONLY known version in circulation in any form, so far.
::: 5 or 6 live versions of "Colorado Town" circulate, with the song first released on "Paris Sessions" in 1971.
::: I ain't got the Brinsley Schwarz set, tho' believe 'twas captured by this taper & perhaps by other pubrock collectors.
::: Certainly other source tapes of this fine set exist. Can anyone provide us with an upgrade in our 50th year of listening?

***MISCELLANY***
::: Joe's 1972 UK tour seems to have been 12 dates from 1972-04-27 to 1972-05-13.
::: This gig 'tween CJ's "Incredible! Live!"(his 3rd! 1971 album) & before "Paris Sessions"arrived in our ears in '73.
::: CJ had no 1972 albums, but played every month, 130+ gigs, covering the USA (including Alaska), & Europe & the UK.
::: Considering his HigH profile&prolific touring, the fact only 3or4 CJ '72 tapes (mostly partial sets) circulate is rather poor.
::: Only "complete" CJ '72 recording around I can think of is the LOSSY 1972-05-01 Brighton Univ.Of Sussex BBC2 65mins.
::: 1972-05-01 Brighton wrongly dated '70or'71 &noisy&LOSSY version at http://www.archive.org/details/CountryJoeBrighton1970
::: 1972-05-01 Brighton remaster of LOSSY source exists here. Does anyone have a lossless copy of that tape they could provide?
::: Anyone have 1972-05-07 Newcastle-Under-Lyme Bickershaw Festival C.Joe or NRPS sets? Surely both taped & likely filmed.
::: If someone has the circulating 1972-04-25 BBC Old Grey Whistle Test 3 song C.Joe video/audio, I'd love a copy, lossy or better.
::: Excellent CJoe info & SO much more at: http://www.chickenonaunicycle.com
::: BBC In Concert Paris Theatre shows had a maximum of 400 people in attendance & the stage about 12" off the floor.

Recording/Transfer Information ::: BBC1 medium wave broadcast -> unknown reel-to-reel recorder -> off-air master mono reel -> 1st generation high bias cassette, Dolby off -> Nakamichi CR-7E cassette deck (azimuth aligned, Dolby off) -> Marantz DR-700 -> (2000) CD-R -> EAC -> wavs -> flacs. [PLUS new Mk2/3 versions include at 77 second PATCH of beginning of programme sourced from my M1 Maxell XLII cassette with Dolby B (also from The Man In The Palace on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth adjusted for individual tape, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (48kHz/24bit wav file dithered to 44.1/16 to match Mk1 transfer].

Remastering 2021-12-xx (3 painstaking days. "F" the crackle!) ::: 1st generation flacs -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset (NOT to normalize volume), fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, clap, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, +2.4% #01-06 +2.4%, #07-08 +2.1%, 09-10 +1.8, 11-15 +1.55% averaged pitch (speed) fixes with single pass per segment after frequency analysis & with CD pitch assessment, differential equalisation applied on everything, plus EQ on split second bass overload spots & notches at 48+49 KHz to reduce cyclical hum, lite noise reduction used to lower hiss&hum without disastrous artifacts] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. (Think I decided hanwaker had combined the 2-channel mono recording & I did do the same for the patch from my copy, after checking frequency response was virtually identical & aligning the channels). Freed 2021-12-xx.

Line-up ::: Country Joe McDonald - acoustic guitar, piano (#4 only), vocals

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 789 ::: Thanks to the original taper - The Man In The Palace, & original uploader - DIMER hanwaker. Thanks to Country Joe for all his excellent music & for supplying the missing song title & for being generous enough to allow his live recordings to be shared by all at archive.org. Sincere thanks to whomever uploads this for me. ::: Corrections welcome ::: With 2 different M1 sources to choose from, I went with the Dolby off transfer, which had more high frequencies, and hiss... but since I was going to EQ&NR for myself (at least), it seemed the best choice. This was a recording WELL worth remastering & is well worth some listens for anyone into Country Joe - a great counterpart to his released material as there are so many rare songs - even an incredibly rare piano outing... Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
