notes:
-Cracker in Flag on 4th of July - could not say "no" to that since I was in town, and at the Orpheum, a good place to see a show (except for intense
secuity going in - more on that in a moment...)
-I knew Cracker was good on recording, as I've recorded them many times before, but to be sure I checked at the box office before the show and the friendly
CR there told me "if that is the case, to just bring my gear." OK...back to car to get gear - get back to Orpheum and opeing band is on. Get to front of
line and security stops the gear - I explain (try to) it's all good with band. They call out venue manager and he's like no way - I need permission
from band but they are not available to ask and he doesn'tknow when they will be - just giving me attitude/hard time. Back to car and drop off gear.
Get back in and go to merch table - David (not Lowry) working the booth - I tell him what's up and he immediately texts manager to come out, that he was
giving me permission to record. Manager comes out and begrudgingly/sheepishly agrees (busted!). Back to car again and through security again and meanwhile
Cracker comes on! Damn! Rush in to set up gear - miss all first tune and half second thanks to manager and security just with poor attitude. Tour manager
comes over to hang and tells me to move up/super accomodating - we even exchange digits - there is night and there is day, there is darkness and there is
light, is the moral of this story I suppose...
-I end up on horizontal aisle between the floor/seats and bar area in back - no one else nearby - real nice recording. Mics 6' up on stand/baffle and
floor was a bit higher than dance floor - unimpeded sound.
-show is just great - lots of the popular ones, but also 3 (!!!) Johnny tunes with his "Another Song About the Rain" just a knock down killer version/
high point of show! A couple Camper Van Beethoven tunes, a Grateful Dead one & Really only one from last cds ("El Cerrito" interesting choice...), and
a super psychdelic "Sweet Potato"...and one of my faves for 1st encore "Hey Bret"! ("Do you know what time it is!?"...indeed...)
-attached some photos in file set
-dance floor was full, seats not even half, bar area not even half.
-support the artists - go see Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven!
-another Sonoran Desert Recording recorded, mastered and seeded by Matt23. For personal use only - no selling. Share freely. Do not convert into MP3 and
share - MP3 for personal use only. Keep the gene pool clean!
